Krosnice Commune

The Krośnice commune is located in Milicz County, in the north-eastern part of Lower Silesia Province, in the very centre of the Barycz Valley Landscape Park, approximately 60 km from Wrocław.

Its exceptional natural and recreational qualities make it one of the most attractive tourist centres in Lower Silesia. It borders with the communes of: Zawonia, Milicz, Twardogóra, Sośnia and Dobroszyce. It lies in an area of two mesoregions: the south-west part is a fragment of the Twardogóra Hills, while the north-east part of the commune is part of the Milicz Basin.

The commune of Krosnice consists of 22 sołectwa: Brzostowo, Bukowice (2 sołectwa), Czarnogoździce, Czeszyce, Dąbrowa, Dziewiętlin, Grabownica, Kotlarka, Krosnice, Kuźnica Czeszycka, Lędzina, Luboradów, Łazy, Pierstnica, Police, Stara Huta, Suliradzice, Świebodów, Wąbnice, Wierzchowice, Żeleźniki.

The municipality covers an area of 17873 ha. Agricultural land accounts for 8800 ha (49.2%), forests occupy 6762 ha (37.8%) and other land and wasteland 2311 ha (13.0%). About 80% of the arable land is occupied by fertile soils. Fish ponds and forests play an important role in the municipal economy. Żeleźniki, Krośnice and Dziewiętlin are three pond complexes. The main production direction of the ponds is carp breeding. In addition to it, mixed stocks include tench, amur, catfish, zander and pike. Most of the breeding ponds are owned by the State Treasury and managed by Gospodarstwo Rybackie Krośnice. There are also numerous private ponds. The total area occupied by standing water is 1368 ha. This is steadily increasing.

The commune is crossed by the railway route Olesnica - Krotoszyn and the provincial road No. 448 Milicz - Syców and the national road No. 15 Wrocław - Olsztyn. The most convenient access from Wroclaw is via national roads No. 5 and 15 in the direction of Milicz to the village of Lasowice. 2 km after Lasowice one should turn right to Krośnice.

In the village of Wierzchowice, in a former gas mine, the largest underground gas storage facility in Poland is located, bearing the name of the village in which it is situated. The area of the Krośnice commune, with the exception of the areas of the villages of Pierstnica and Bukowice, is protected as the "Barycz Valley" Landscape Park. The forests occurring in the commune are counted among areas of outstanding natural value.

The Krośnice commune is an ideal place for family holidays, environmental education or a sports camp. In addition to unique nature and a mosaic landscape interspersed with ponds, forests, meadows and wetlands, the Krośnice commune has a modern recreational and sports infrastructure, built with funds obtained from EU funds.
