Żmigród is a town located in the Central Polish Lowlands belt, in the centre of the Żmigród Basin, on the left bank of the Barycz River. According to administrative division, it is located in the northern periphery of the Lower Silesian Voivodship, in Trzebnica County.
The town is the main centre of the municipality, with an area of 292 km2 and a population of 14,864, of which 6,539 live in the town itself and 8,325 in the other 30 villages. The northern and eastern parts of the municipality are covered by forest complexes, which occupy about 29% of its area. In addition to the forests, the main wealth of the area is the breeding ponds with a total area of 1,427 ha. A variety of fish are reared there, but the main production is carp for both the domestic market and for export.
The impressive landscape and natural features are a major attraction for all tourists, mainly cyclists, but also hikers.
The municipality of Żmigród offers more than 140 km of cycle trails through the attractive terrain. There is a dynamic increase in the number of comfortable and safe cycle paths, currently more than 26 km, along the route of the former narrow-gauge railway.
